Time to relax :)

I haven’t posted for quite a while now, and I know I should write here more often, but it’s been a crazy summer so far at work. I am amassing a ton of photos on the computer and one of these days I would like to spend time going through and sorting them all out. Seems that the opportunities are endless on my journeys and  I normally have a camera of some sort with me, but for this coming weekend, I think it’s time to just enjoy the weekend and relax.

Time to open up a bottle of Merlot, and chill for tonight, then head up to Calgary to visit with my parents and sisters who I haven’t seen for a while 🙂 Happy times!!!

Enjoy your weekend everyone, and don’t forget to put your feet up once in a while 😉

Adobe…===UPDATE=== See new post on Friday, April 8, 2011

I spent the last hour on hold with Adobe only to find that I can’t be helped… Grrr. I purchased a Windows 7 version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 a month and a half ago online. I had downloaded the trial version, and got my serial number right away after using a credit card… Great!! Works fine 🙂 Now I bought an iMac, and  re-download the Mac version, and the serial number now doesn’t work. I talked to a online chat customer service rep, who said I need to open a case file @Adobe, then call this number… Did all that, then called the phone rep  who told me that it would cost me another $20+ to have a new box shipped for the iMac… I got the old serial number online, why not the new version… Seems like a cash grab to me when it could all be done online… PLUS I would have to wait for a week to ten days to get it… Nice going Adobe… NOT!

I am a super happy person after Adobe Customer Care came through for me: See new post on Friday, April 8, 2011

Life lessons :)

Friendships do actually happen for a reason, season, or a lifetime like the saying goes. Sure it may be sad when you think friends from over the years would be in it for a lifetime but turn into a reason or a season instead, but hey, we need to get past it and move on. You’ve most likely had your fun times, bad times, and all the times in between but always remember the lesson learned from that particular person. Social media seems to help categorize people that way too, whether it be long lost friends, old friends, new friends or just the aquaintances you have met along the way. They all mean something and have had a good reason to be in your life.

Being an photo nut, I have taken many images over the years of events, parties, business, trips, get-togethers with friends and family etc, and for me the memories of these people will never die, they just take me right back at that moment to remind me of all the fun times I had along lifes pathway..! Each and every person had a reason they were in your life. Give yourself permission to allow change, embrace it even, and then move on and open your hearts to meeting new people! Be happy and thankful for the time spent getting to know a person, whether it was a reason, season or a lifetime!!

Keep smiling and learn, always 😀

It’s sure hard to get worried about the little things in life when Japan is going through such turmoil right now… Makes you think about what’s really important! I saw an exploit on Twitter by @bing (The Microsoft Search Engine) using the catastrophe to drum up; they will send $1 ‘if’ you retweet their link… Shame on you…! Google quietly posted actual ‘help’ by offering a website that people could look up loved ones there… Way to go Google! My heart goes out to the people of Japan and sure hope help arrives for them soon 🙂

They say a fool and his money are soon parted…and I’m glad to report that that statement is not always true! There are a few good people left out there that still value friendship over and above anything else in life, and no matter what, they are truly there for you 🙂 You have treated me with only pure friendship and for that I am eternally grateful to you both!! Karma is smiling upon you kindly 🙂 See you @BURGER 30….lol

I thought I would post a pic again, and write some more about how this was taken…

The camera was set up on a 30 second exposure, and one of the other guys used his flashlight to ‘paint’ the light on the edges of the building while the shutter was left open… It was a cool trick i hadn’t done before, and opens up a few ideas for me 🙂

Anyways, keep shooting and having fun!!

Photo Contests…. maybe not so good??

>Think VERY carefully about entering magazine contests that offer you the world! It concerns me just a little bit about the many photography magazines that run photo contests with cool prizes just for uploading pictures you have taken, with a great chance of winning really cool stuff.

Professional photographers blogs that I have read recently have talked about magazines doing this and receiving images from photographers (Amateurs and Pro’s alike)and then using them in an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide perpetual license without compensation to the Photographer.

I would have given away my soul at one point to get my images in these “premium magazines”, but not any longer…

It does appear that some will acknowledge you as the Photographer, but then they have the right to use YOUR images as they see fit…Forever, without any further compensation for all the hard work it may have taken to take the picture in the first place…

I don’t want to name names, or mention the blogs I have read, so Google is your friend here. I only want to let people be aware of what “I” consider a real problem with contests. I am NOT a lawyer, so do your own homework first before entering ANY contests… most of them will have a “Legal” section that you must abide by…

This is a snippet of one such contest’s rules:
USE OF ENTRY: By submitting an entry, entrant grants Sponsor and its designees an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide perpetual license to use the entry and his/her name, city and state of residence for credit purposes in Sponsor’s online galleries, without further compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law. In addition, each winner grants to the Sponsor and its designees an irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, worldwide perpetual license to use and distribute the entry [(as submitted, or as cropped by Sponsor)], and his/her name, city and state of residence for credit purposes, in any and all media now or hereafter known, including without limitation in ****** magazine, for purposes of promotion of this Contest and other Sponsor contests and/or for purposes of advertising and promoting Sponsor and, except as otherwise stated herein, without further compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law.
